In the Civin Lab we study genes that regulate hematopoiesis, not only in the context of stem cells but also their role in leukemogenesis. As more and more studies are published, we realize that genes that are necessary for development are commonly found to be disregulated, translocated or mutated in leukemias. My interest is in a few homeodomain transcription factors and homeodomain related proteins which were previously found to be upregulated in various stem cell populations. We employ lentiviral vectors to assess the function of proteins of interest in primary cell and leukemia cell lines.
