Our lab is interested in identifying and characterizing genomic alterations that lead to prostate cancer, one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the US. Although a number of studies point to a strong familial element in prostate cancer, the genetic basis of hereditary prostate cancer remains elusive. We used linkage analysis and next generation sequencing approaches to identify novel genes involved in prostate cancer development. My project focuses on functional analysis and characterization of the genes found to harbor lesions in prostate cancer patients.
